Choosing the right Jetboil stove for your adventure
Selecting the camping stove best suited for your needs depends on three main factors:
Trip length
Short overnight hikes usually require only a small camping stove portable system like the Jetboil Zip or Flash. Longer trips or group expeditions may benefit from larger pots or expanded cooking options.
Group size
Solo hikers often prioritise compact hiking stove systems with minimal weight. For two or more people, a larger pot like the TrailCook 2L can make cooking far easier.
Cooking style
If your goal is simply boiling water quickly, integrated systems like the Jetboil Flash Cooking Stove are hard to beat. However, if you enjoy preparing full meals outdoors, adding cooking pots dramatically expands your capabilities.
Understanding these factors helps ensure you choose a Jetboil stove that matches your real-world camping habits.

What makes a Jetboil stove different from a regular camping stove?
A jetboil stove uses an integrated heat exchanger system that maximises efficiency and dramatically reduces boil times compared with many traditional camping stove setups. This means you can boil water faster while using less fuel, making Jetboil systems especially popular for bushwalking, hiking and lightweight camping where pack weight and fuel efficiency matter.
Is a Jetboil a good hiking stove for multi-day trips?
Yes. Jetboil systems are widely considered one of the camping stove best choices for multi-day hiking trips. Their compact design, fuel efficiency and fast boil times make them ideal as a reliable hiking stove for preparing dehydrated meals, tea, coffee and simple trail food after long days on the track.
Which Jetboil stove is best for solo hikers?
For solo hikers, compact systems like the Jetboil Flash S25 1.0L or Jetboil Zip S25 Carbon 0.8L are excellent options. These lightweight models are designed to function as a camping stove portable solution that packs easily into a backpack while still delivering fast and efficient cooking performance.
Can you cook real meals on a Jetboil camping stove?
Yes. While many hikers use Jetboil systems primarily to boil water, adding accessories like the TrailCook 1.2L Hiking Pot or TrailCook 2L Cooking Pot allows you to cook full meals. With the right setup, your jetboil stove can handle pasta, rice, soups and other one-pot meals while still maintaining the efficiency Jetboil is known for.

I use these most weekends for a few hours, and used them on the Milford Track in NZ last year. Very comfortable, no blisters at all from brand new, and no damage showing. They also dried well overnight from total submersion, albeit in a drying room, but no residual water in any part. Well worth the cost for great gear.
Tiny. Very light, so it's unnoticeable in a pack. Fits in a 600ml mug on top of a small gas canister with a couple of bic lighters beside it. Seems very reliable so far. Stable.
I bought this to replace the pole in my almost-30-year-old OR bivy sack. It was a little longer than needed for the old sack, but easy to cut down to the correct size.
This grid fleece is everything I could have imagined and then some. The gram weenies may fret over its weigh and pack ability but this thing is seriously warm, super comfortable and the balaclava style hoodie is fantastic. Provides great coverage without adding too much bulk to the front of the neck when the hoodie is down. It’s OR, you get what you pay for. True to size.
When you purchase your Mac in Sac puffer you know you’re not buying OR or Mont. as long as you approach this purchase with that mindset you will love what you get for the price you pay. This is a lovely little jacket that has enough loft and warmth to work well on its own in mild conditions and as part of a layered system in really cold situations. It packs down incredibly small and the material is nice against the skin should you need to wear it against your skin. I would recommend this puffer as part of a layering system for anyone and everyone.
