Which Mont Moondance Tent Is Right for You?

Comparing Mont Moondance 1 vs Mont Moondance 2

The Mont Moondance series is one of Australia’s most trusted tent ranges for hikers, trekkers, and backcountry adventurers. Whether you're planning a solo alpine mission or a summer hike with a mate, choosing between the Moondance One vs Two, or the Full Nylon (FN) vs Mesh inner, can make a big difference to your comfort and experience.

In this post and our accompanying YouTube video, we break down the key differences to help you decide which Mont Moondance tent is best suited to your needs.

Mont Moondance 1 vs Mont Moondance 2: Size & Weight

The most obvious difference between the Moondance One and Moondance Two is space.

The One-person version is designed for solo hikers wanting to save weight and pack space while still living like a king with its spacious inner and freestanding ability.

The Two-person version gives you more room to stretch out or share with a partner or friend. With double door entry, you can store your packs in the vestibules.

Kristine from PAST regularly takes her beginner friends out in her 2 person Moondance to show them truly how good it can get.

Moondance Two

Both tents are easy to pitch, come with 2x DAC Featherlite poles, and offer excellent internal height and vestibule space compared to other lightweight tents in their class.

Full Nylon vs Mesh Inner: What's the Difference?

This is where your environment and season come into play, and where a lot of people get confused.

  • The Full Nylon (FN) version is best year round use; but specifically excellent for cold, windy, &/or alpine conditions, offering extra warmth, weather protection, and reduced airflow (good for exposed areas).

  • The Standard Mesh Inner version is 3 season, and ideal for warm or humid conditions, offering maximum airflow and breathability — perfect for summer hiking or inland tracks like the Larapinta.

If you’re camping year-round or heading into higher elevations, the Moondance FN is a true 3-4 season tent. For fair-weather adventurers or those who run warm, the Mesh version keeps condensation low and airflow high.

Both tents have Mont's signature 25,000mm WaterBloc Waterproof floor.

Which Mont Moondance Tent Should You Buy?

If you hike solo, appreciate extra space and want to travel light, the Moondance One is a great option. If you're hiking with a partner, the Moondance Two offers space without too much weight penalty.

If you’re investing in a Moondance for year round use, and find yourself in colder climates or exposed ridgelines, go with the Full Nylon. Don’t forget, you also have multiple mesh windows in the Full Nylon version and can set it up without the fly if weather permits for extra airflow.

For summer or inland trails, the Standard Mesh version will be a breeze to sleep in.
