Beginning in Christchurch with an evening briefing and group dinner, the traverse heads north to Lake Rotoroa, where a water taxi crosses into the Sabine Valley for the first night of backcountry camping. Days two and three push deeper into the wilderness — up through red beech forest and alpine terrain to the internationally renowned Blue Lake, set in a dramatic cirque below the Main Divide.

Day four is the crux of the trip: a demanding crossing of Moss Pass with panoramic Southern Alps views, descending into the remote D'Urville headwaters to Morgan Hut. The final full walking day follows the D'Urville River downstream at a more relaxed pace to D'Urville Hut, before a morning boat transfer on day six returns the group to Lake Rotoroa for the drive south, ending with a farewell dinner in Christchurch and airport transfers on day seven.
