Wilderness Wear - Merino Fusion 190 Zip LS Neck

MerinoFusion is a hybrid weave that creates a hard wearing yet soft, luxurious next to skin feeling material that is perfect for base-layer thermals. Ideal for skiing, bushwalking, sailing, running and cycling, along with travel and casual wear, it provides the best of both worlds – nature made plus man-made.

Wilderness Wear has a long history of making premium technical clothing from premium yarns, with Superfine Merino and the Schoeller® polypropylene heading the list since day one. Both fibres have category-leading qualities for those users wanting the very best performance in various outdoor conditions, and now they are available together in an integrated mix named MerinoFusion. Not layered, but blended 50/50 on the knitting machine, the result is a hard wearing, soft feeling, moisture wicking, odor resistant material perfectly suited to the next generation of base-layer thermals.

MerinoFusion is strongly influenced by three words: “SUSTAINABILITY + INNOVATION = SUSTAINNOVATION”

Good but could be excellent (re zip and strange sizing)

My 2nd purchase (in store) after loving the material of my first. In an attempt to solve the uncomfortable zip - I sized up from M to L and spent $30 getting it shortened as it completely covered my bum (I'm 173cm wth a 100cm chest). We actually spent a lot of time in store trying to work out the M/L difference - it seems to be in the body length. Sadly the uncomfortable zip problem persisted. But, it was still my goto piece on this trip (together with my older, size M, WW top) but a star deducted for the still uncomfortable zip (despite sizing up for a broader chest) and having to spend on an alteration making it an expensive purchase. I also wore a Mammut size M ½ zip top on this trip with no baffle - which didn't have these issues. So I wonder if changing the zip is the solution?

Almost Excellent. Best non-smelly, thermal regulating base layer in yonks!

If you need something warm, but not too warm, this piece is almost the best I’ve come across. Synthetics like Helly Hansen thermal ¼ zip tops are too warm for >8C. Other’s smell to high heaven. I’ve worn icebreaker merino for a while but they smell after a day and trap salt and don’t deal with with temperature changes. They also don’t dry too well. I wore this for 3 days hiking, in 12-20C. It didn’t smell. It dries quickly and comes out of a wash almost dry. More importantly, I wasn’t overheating or cold with a light mid layer. My only, but major , criticism is the zip is really uncomfortable unless undone or done up. It hurts as it digs into your chest. A simple baffle, like you find on icebreaker tech ¼ zips would solve that problem. So it’s 4 rather than 5 stars. I don’t care how good the material is, if it’s uncomfortable it’s not going to be as inviting. Maybe it’s because I have a broad chest. But the solution is so simple and should be standard on an otherwise excellent piece of kit.

Comfortable and warm

A comfortable and warm but not sweaty thermal

Australian Made

Nice to able to Buy Australian Made with Australian Wool rather then the China made.
Pay the extra and have a garment that will last for years.
Good Quality Product, 5 Stars.
