The rain arrived so I headed out with my waterproof coat, leggings. and the sealskinz socks with the hydrostop mid calf. It was about 16 degrees with light to moderate rain. After the first couple of kms my toes felt damp. Towards the end of the 9km walk, having gone through some puddles my feet felt damp. I wondered if it was sweat or water coming through. So the next day having dried out the socks I wore them in the 20 the degree heat for about 7km. My feet didn't feel damp from sweat. So to test them another way I filled the laundry tub with water, put them on my hands and dunked them in. My hands felt dry. Then I moved my hands around in them for a few minutes to replicate movement. The same amount of dampness returned as when I'd been walking in the rain. They never got more than damp inside even though sopping wet on the outside. It would be interesting to see whether waterproof shoes with standard socks and overtrou would stay drier. The sealskinz socks are very soft and comfortable underfoot. I will take note of how long that softness lasts. The soggy socks took over 24hrs to dry. I will continue to monitor their performance.
