Born from frustration, built to last

Mont

In 1978, a Canberra local named Andrew "Monty" Montgomery got fed up with the poor quality outdoor gear available at the time. Using a borrowed sewing machine, he made himself a sleeping bag, a down jacket, and a tent. Friends were impressed, word spread, and by 1981 Mont Adventure Equipment was officially founded.

Still independently owned and based in Canberra, Mont has since equipped expeditions to some of the most extreme locations on earth, from ascents of 8,000m peaks to traverses of both poles. Monty still directs the company today, working closely with the team on the design and testing of every product Mont makes.

Why we choose Mont

Genuinely independent, genuinely Australian

Still privately owned and based in Canberra over four decades on, Mont has never chased trends or cut corners to save a few cents.

Proven in extreme conditions

Mont gear has supported expeditions to 8,000m peaks and both poles, and every product is designed and tested by a team of genuine outdoor adventurers.

Repairable, not disposable

Mont runs an onsite repair workshop able to fix Mont gear regardless of age, reflecting a genuine commitment to durability over throwaway consumption.

The Supercell EX, tested in New Zealand

A 4-season, integral-pitch tunnel tent built to withstand high wind and shed heavy snow load, the Supercell EX pitches its fly and inner simultaneously, a genuine advantage when you're setting up in wet or blizzarding weather. We took it into the New Zealand alps to see how it actually holds up.
